Text Box: All dog people have that one special dog in their life that is,  for whatever reason, extra special to them   I gave Nike her name because her mother was Reebok.  Nike has truly changed my life. When I got Nike my dog interest was to do obedience.  We slogged through that for 4 years but Nike’s heart was obviously not in it. When Nike was 4 with the encouragement of a local Gordon breeder, we went off to a Hunt test to try junior hunter. Well THAT was a different story. Normally a very low key dog I had never seen her be so enthused over something. The next year, 2000 the NFT was here in WA and I decided, to go and enter Nike in the Open Gun Dog Retrieve. It was Feb and the trial was April and I had an unbroke dog. With the help of Tom Salmone and Nike’s background in obedience we pulled it off and she came home with a third place ribbon. That summer we honed our skills in the field by passing 3 legs of SH.  In the fall it was back to the FTs and she got her first placement at an all breed trial. The next summer she completed her SH and that fall won a 35 dog all breed OGD. WOW! She suddenly had 5 points! Maybe I could make her a Field Champion? She finished her FC at a fall trial in the 95 degree heat with a run that we will never forget. Nike has been NW Field Trial Counsel top Gordon for 5 years, GSCA Gun Dog retrieve in 2001, 2002, 2004, has placed in 6  Gordon Setter National Field trials. The last one at age 10. Nike opened a whole new world of hunting and field trialing to me in which I have been many beautiful and interesting places and met many wonderful people and made some great friends.
